Cherry Blossom Engagement Session in DC

There really is something magical about DC at sunrise.

When Evie reached out for a cherry blossom engagement session, she described how special the DC monuments were to her and her fiancé Emmanuel and their story. The Tidal Basin was the perfect place to capture everything this couple loves about the city, from the famous cherry blossoms to the view of the Washington Monument and the steps of the Jefferson Memorial.

I met Evie and Emmanuel at sunrise by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial along the Tidal Loop Trail. We had been a little nervous that the cherry blossoms hadn't survived the round of storms in the days before their session, but just enough blooms held on for us. Getting to the Tidal Basin around the cherry blossom peak is always an adventure, and I have a whole post explaining the best way to get there! Photographers are often fighting crowds, even at sunrise, but the annual 10-Miler actually prevented a lot of access to the Tidal Basin that morning. We arrived before the race began and left after it had passed by, so we had the perfect window of opportunity to capture these portraits!

We started at the MLK Memorial and actually ended up walking the entire loop trail to the Jefferson Memorial and back! As we trekked along the trail, I had a wonderful time getting to know Evelyn and Emmanuel. Their love for each other was plain to see, and they just looked at each other like they were the only two people in the world.

I love chatting with my couples and getting to know them as more than clients. Your love story is important to me, and I'm grateful that so many couples have given me the chance to know and understand them!
