There are some engagement sessions that feel less like work and more like spending an afternoon with old friends, and that’s exactly how it felt photographing Katie and Hunter at the always-lovely Maymont Park in Richmond, Virginia. With its rolling hills, expansive gardens, and hidden pathways, Maymont always delivers, but on this particular fall day the park felt especially magical.

Autumn had settled in just enough to give us a rich tapestry of color before the trees finally shed their leaves. Every direction offered a new pocket of beauty, and we couldn’t help but stop every few steps to take advantage of the gorgeous light and foliage.

What truly made the session fun, though, was Katie and Hunter themselves. From the moment we met at the park gates, they were full of laughter, inside jokes, and an ease with each other that made my job feel wonderfully simple. Their connection was effortless and genuine.

By the end of the session, the sun dipped low across the Italian Garden, casting a warm glow that wrapped them in the most romantic light.

If their engagement session is any hint of what’s to come, their wedding day is going to be full of love and laughter. I’m already counting down the days until I get to document the next chapter of their story at Great Marsh Estate.
