They say a wet knot is harder to untie, but you never would have known it was pouring outside on C & S’s wedding day. This sweet couple kept their focus on the most important things to them: their faith, their community, and each other. From their first touch at the bridal suite door, it was clear that this day promised joy that would carry them into their life together.

Out of all the local engagement session spots, the Jefferson Memorial is the one I’ve visited the most often (15 times in two years!). It’s one of the first places listed in my engagement session guide, which I’ve curated over the past few years. I now know what time is best to get one of my favorite views of the Washington Monument, which helps me maintain the flow of the session and ensures that my couples get the most out of the location.

As the temperature drops, this memorial remains a perfect all-season option for engagement sessions.

An engagement session is a great way to get to know your wedding photographer, and can help you feel more confident in front of a camera before your wedding day. However, an experienced wedding photographer should be doing the work behind the scenes to ensure that even if you’re meeting for the first time on a wedding day, there’s no awkwardness. I love this time of year, and have a lot to be grateful for as both a mom and as a small business owner. If I had to pick one thing to be most thankful for this year, it would have to be “family,” but in an all-encompassing sense of the word. My husband, my children, and their wonderful grandparents, aunties and uncles (and a few fur babies) make every day brighter. I have to include my children’s friends and my “mom friends” as family. From summer evenings at the pool to weekly ballet classes (and currently surviving Nutcracker season together), we’ve spent 2025 building community, support, and incredible friendship.

Don’t forget to tell your favorite people that you love them, and have a safe, happy Thanksgiving!

Traded sunrise for golden hour in two back-to-back engagement sessions ✨ I got to spend the weekend exploring Maymont with two wonderful couples. I’ll start with Isabel and Mehron. We’d had to reschedule their session due to rain, and I’m so happy that we had the most perfect weather this weekend this week. All wedding vendors have their own ”must-haves” on wedding days, and these are some of the essentials I can’t go without!

Another photographer recommended Loop earplugs once the dance floor opens and since I’ve started using them, my post-wedding “hangovers” are (mostly) gone! Protecting your hearing should be a priority!

I wear two cameras for most of the day, so my double harness keeps everything within reach. I got mine from Etsy, but they can be rented too!

A video light for sparkler exits, handheld fans, plenty of snacks and water, and a folding wagon to hold it all round out my wedding day essentials.

I loved exploring DC with S & B a few weeks ago! We started at the Jefferson Memorial before heading to the Library of Congress. My first engagement session was at the Library of Congress, and it’s still a favorite spot. The doors don’t open until 10am (don’t forget your timed ticket), but the outside of the Library maintains soft lighting well past sunrise. If you’re planning to go inside, I recommend getting in line early!

K & C are married! My second wedding of the weekend was at Rose Hill Manor, which coincidentally is where I was on June 1 last year too! This couple and their families were just the sweetest, and it was hard not to feel emotional during their vows and toasts. They participated in a traditional Paebaek ceremony, during which family members wished them well (and tossed dates and chestnuts to symbolize future children). It was truly a special day!

After an afternoon of rain and clouds, the sun finally came out in time for H & T to say, “I do!” The bride’s family lovingly designed all the floral arrangements, to beautiful effect in the light-filled space at @theatriumatmeadowlark . When the gardens closed, we had the whole place to ourselves! Congratulations to these sweet newlyweds!

Dreaming of sunny summer days on this rainy morning. Georgetown is one of my favorite spots in the district for engagement sessions. It’s beautiful year-round, and I love its cozy neighborhood vibe. Best of all, it has some great cafes for post-session sweet treats (my fave is @bakedandwireddc ).
